MCV Performs with Boston Pops at Pops On The Heights Concert
MCV was pleased to once again perform with the Boston Pops Orchestra at a special 25th anniversary Pops on the Heights concert at Boston College on Friday, September 29th.
Headlining the night was singer Jennifer Hudson and Maestro John Williams was the the honored guest.
MCV To Perform with Boston Camerata
Members of MCV will perform with the internationally renowned Boston Camerata on Sunday, October 29, 2017 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Be sure to reserve your tickets today to “Liberty Tree: Early Music for the American Soul.”
MCV Performs “The Patriot” with Boston Pops Orchestra
Several MCV fifers and one snare drummer joined the Boston Pops Orchestra to perform the John Williams score to The Patriot during the live television broadcast of the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, held annually on July 4th at the Hatch Memorial Shell in Boston, Massachusetts. Over 500,000 attended the outdoor concert with many more watching on Bloomberg TV or at bloomberg.com. We wish to thank the Boston Pops for this opportunity to play before a national audience.
Members of MCV will have the distinct honor of playing with the Boston Pops Orchestra at the Hatch Shell in Boston on Tuesday, July 4th for the annual Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular. Fifers (and one drummer) will join the Pops to perform a selection from John Williams’ film score for The Patriot. Bloomberg has exclusive TV and radio broadcast rights to this year so please check this link to see if you can watch or hear the concert live. MCV should be on around 8:40 pm (broadcast starts @ 8:00 pm).
MCV had a wonderful time as a featured performing group throughout the duration of Sail Boston along the Boston waterfront to celebrate the return of the Tall Ships to our capital city. Events included the following:
- Opening ceremony on Friday, June 16th @ 12:00 pm at the Boston Harbor Hotel Rotunda
- Ceremony on USS Whidbey Island on Saturday, June 17th
- Red Carpet ceremony and Captains Reception on Sunday, June 18th at the State House, Boston
- Crew & Cadet Street Parade on Monday, June 19th from Seaport to Downtown Crossing, Boston, MA
- Sunset Salute on Wednesday, June 21st at Fan Pier Park, Boston, MA
Stay tuned for additional photos and video from the event. This was a true “tour” in every way, though we never left the country. We can’t wait till the next Sail Boston event (in 2026!).
Busy 2017 Performance Season Off to a Roaring Start
MCV has had a busy Spring performance season so far and many exciting performances to come! We marched in the Manchester, NH St. Patriots Day Parade on March 26th and then turned our attention to the Patriots Day events: Bedford and Concord ceremonies the weekend before the holiday, followed by our return to the Lincoln Salute on April 16th and Patriots Day parades in Concord and Lexington on April 17th.
In the midst of all of this, MCV had the good fortune to be invited to record the John Williams score for “The Patriot” with the Boston Pops Orchestra. Eight current and alumni members of the fife section recorded at Boston Symphony Hall on April 10th. The “Tribute to John Williams” CD will be released later this year.
Our next performance will be in the Arlington, MA Patriots Day Parade on Sunday, April 23rd. Stay tuned for updated on our many May gigs and info on our incredibly busy June!
Wrapping Up 2016 With Holiday Lights Television Broadcast
MCV had the good fortune to kick-off the Boston Holiday Lights show held on Boston Common this past December 1st. This annual event celebrates the lighting of the Christmas tree that is sent to us by our friends in Nova Scotia.
The hour long concert was broadcast live on WCVB Channel 5 Boston and will be re-broadcast on December 24. MCV played a selection of Christmas music that was very well received by the thousands in attendance and we hope to return to this event in the future.
We are now on holiday break but will return to our weekly rehearsal schedule on January 8. Happy Holidays to all of our fans and stay tuned for all that is in store for MCV in 2017.
MCV To Perform at the 2018 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo
MCV has accepted an invitation to perform at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in August 2018. We last performed at the Tattoo in 2007. Stay tuned for further details as they become available. We are looking forward to the musical journey that awaits us!
Deep River Ancient Muster Mini-Tour a Success
MCV has just returned from a busy weekend at the Deep River Ancient Muster in Deep River, Connecticut. The ensemble performed in the DRAM evening Tattoo on July 15th to a large audience on a very balmy Summer night. The next day found us participating in the Deep River Ancient Muster parade and on-stand performances from morning till evening. Finally, MCV and the Los Angeles Fifes & Drums performed in concert at the Company of Fifers & Drummers Museum in Ivoryton, CT on Sunday, July 17th to a small but appreciative audience. We are now on Summer break but will return in late August.
Celebrating Independence Day in Boston
MCV had a busy Independence Day holiday weekend with three performances over 4 days. MCV was delighted to return to Boston Harborfest, performing in a sidewalk parade/ roving concert throughout downtown Boston on Friday, July 1st. We were even joined by some U.S. Marines on shore leave at two of our impromptu concerts. Monday, July 4th found us back in Boston for the city’s annual parade and ceremony, which concludes with a dramatic reading of the Declaration of Independence from the balcony of the Old State House and a cannon full of confetti is shot into the air (see photo above). We then changed into our summer uniform and marched in a 4th of July parade in Wakefield, Mass for seemingly record breaking crowds along the parade route.
Successful Campaign to Colonial Williamsburg
MCV had a successful tour to Colonial Williamsburg. MCV and the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes & Drums (senior and alumni corps) entertained a sold out house at the Kimball Theatre on May 20th. Renowned Drum Major John C. Moon (Ret.) was the Master of Ceremonies for this annual concert. On Saturday, May 21st MCV participated in a full day of events as part of Drummers Call: a Grand March (marred by heavy rain), an indoor live-streamed concert that took the place of the rained out fife & drum muster and an evening Tattoo and Torchlit parade through the Revolutionary City. We once again wish to thank Colonial Williamsburg Fifes & Drums for the invite to their prestigious event.
MCV On the Road to Colonial Williamsburg for Drummers Call and Concert
MCV is thrilled to return to Virginia to participate in Drummers Call at Colonial Williamsburg on Saturday, May 21st. Several other fife and drum corps from throughout the Northeast will be performing during this day long event, featuring a daylight parade, a fife and drum muster and a torch-lit parade throughout the Revolutionary City in the evening.
We are honored to have been invited to perform in the “Successful Campaign“ concert at Kimball Theatre in Williamsburg on Friday, May 20th. We thank Colonial Williamsburg Fifes & Drums for the chance to play again at the lovely Kimball Theatre.
Marching Into Spring
MCV will kick-off our 2016 performance season on Sunday, March 20th at 1:00 pm in Scituate, Mass. for their annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. We hope to see many of our South Shore friends along the parade route. For full details on our ever evolving schedule please visit our online Calendar.
Happy New Year from MCV
MCV returns to rehearsals on January 17th after our annual Winter break. We will be busy bringing new music on board and polishing our existing repertoire as we prepare for our outdoor performance season. Our first parade of 2016 will be in Scituate, Massachusetts on Sunday, March 20th. We hope to return to see our friends in New Hampshire next year!

MCV with the Boston Pops
MCV wrapped up our 2015 season with two performances. We returned to Boston Symphony Hall on November 20th to perform with the Boston Pops Orchestra in a special evening for alumni and friends of the University of Notre Dame. It was an honor to play once more for Maestro Keith Lockhart in one of the greatest concert halls in North America.
We finished up our busy weekend at the Santa Parade in Haverhill, Massachusetts on Sunday, November 22nd. A bit of drizzle did not deter large crowds from turning out to cheer on the various performance groups. MCV is now on Winter break and will return to our weekly rehearsal schedule in January.
MCV Marches Through Fall/ Prepares for Performance with Boston Pops
We have just finished a very busy 6 week stretch featuring five performances, the last one in the Minute Man National Historic Park at the North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts this past October 10th. A beautiful Fall day in New England..just perfect.
MCV has been invited to perform with the renowned Boston Pops Orchestra on Friday, November 20th at Boston Symphony Hall. We will be featured guest artists as part of a special concert to Notre Dame University alumni and invited guests. We are looking forward to our return to Symphony Hall!
MCV Prepares for Fall Performances
The memberships has had a nice August break but we will return with a very busy Fall performance schedule. The events scheduled so far:

MCV at 2015 Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo
MCV has just returned from 2 1/2 weeks in Canada for the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo in Halifax. We had a successful performance tour and were well received by the audience and fellow cast members. Watch a video from our July 1st performance in the Tattoo. MCV Packing for the Road to Halifax
We are in the home stretch in preparing for our upcoming performances in the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada! MCV will start rehearsals in Halifax on 24 June with a preview show on 29 June. The Tattoo officially runs from 30 June – 7 July. MCV can also be seen at two Tattoo Festival performances on 2 July and 7 July (venues TBA). You can keep track of our adventures by following our blog: MCV On the Road to Halifax: The Return.
But before our departure, MCV will march in the Gaspee Days Parade in Warwick, RI on Saturday, 13 June (10:00 am) and the Bunker Hill Day Parade in Charlestown, MA on Sunday, 14 June (12:30 pm). Hope to see many of our fans out at one or both events!
MCV in May
May was a busy monthfor MCV. We performed at the William Diamond Fife & Drum Muster on Saturday, May 2nd on a beautiful Spring day. Next up is an intensive rehearsal weekend for our upcoming trip to Halifax and then two parades to mark Memorial Day: Sunday, May 24th in Melrose, MA (1:30 pm) and Monday, May 25th in Andover, MA at 10:00 am.
MCV Marches into Spring!
After our seemingly endless Winter, MCV’s first performance of 2015 began at Manchester, New Hampshires’s St. Patrick’s Day parade on Sunday, March 29, 2015.Cold but sunny conditions along with a good audience turnout greeted us. April performances so far have featured sunny and warm conditions: Saturday, April 11th we participated in the Liberty Pole Capping ceremony in Bedford, MA and then headed over to the Meriam’s Corner Exercise in Concord, MA. The very next day we marched in the re-scheduled St. Patrick’s Day parade in Scituate, MA on a spectacular Spring day.
Next up, we will have parades in honor of Patriots Day, on Monday, April 20th: the Concord, MA parade at 9:00 am and the Lexington, MA parade stepping off at 2:00 pm. Hope to see many of our local fans at one of the parades!

MCV at National Muster/ Fall Schedule
MCV attended the National Fife & Drum Muster on Saturday, September 27th, held this year during the Colonial Faire & Muster in Sudbury, MA. A strong turnout by fife and drum corps throughout the Northeast made for a record attendance on an unseasonably mild early Autumn day. We have three events remaining in 2014: East Boston Columbus Day Parade (October 12) Santa Parade in Haverhill, MA (November 23) and a holiday parade in Salem, NH (November 30).
Marching into Fall and National Muster
MCV has had a busy September, having marched in three parades in Marlborough & Littleton, Massachusetts and Raymond, New Hampshire. MCV will next perform at the Sudbury Colonial Faire & Muster, which this year has been designated the National Fife and Drum Muster. The event will be held on Saturday, September 27th on the grounds of the historic Wayside Inn.
DRAM and Fall Schedule
The annual Deep River Ancient Muster (DRAM) on Saturday, July 19th was a great success, featuring a strong turnout of fife and drum corps from the USA and Switzerland and a wonderful Summer day (not too hot and not rainy). MCV along with the Connecticut Patriots co-hosted three fife and drum corps from Switzerland and a good time was had by all. MCV is now on a short summer break but not for long! September will feature three parades and the Sudbury Colonial Faire & Muster, which this year has been designated the National Fife and Drum Muster. MCV’s Star Spangled 4th & 5th of July
MCV was featured at Portland, Maine’s Stars & Stripes Spectacular on Saturday, July 5th (shifted one day later due to rain). We presented a short concert at Portland City Hall at 5:30 pm, followed by a march down Congress Street to the Eastern Promenade. MCV joined the Portland Symphony Orchestra for the evening concert followed by fireworks over Casco Bay. Due to the stormy weather, Boston’s 4th of July parade was converted into an outdoor ceremony at Faneuil Hall. We finished the event just before the rain returned.
MCV will wrap up our Summer schedule with our annual appearance at the Deep River Ancient Muster (DRAM) on Saturday, July 19th. Come on down to Deep River, Connecticut for an event featuring a fife & drum parade (11:00 am) followed by a muster with 60+ fife and drum corps from the USA and Switzerland performing from 1:00 pm till the evening . We hope to see many of our friends that weekend.
June is Busting Out …with Parades
MCV will be marching in four parades during the month of June. First up is the 250th Anniversary Parade in Claremont, NH on Saturday, June 7, starting at 10:30 am. Next up is our annual appearance in the Gaspee Days Parade in Warwick, RI on Saturday, June 14 (10:00 am), followed by the Bunker Hill Day Parade in Charlestown, MA on Sunday, June 15 (12:30 pm). Finally we will appear in the 250th Anniversary Parade in Winchendon, MA on Saturday, June 21, starting at 4:00 pm.
Stay tuned for full details on MCV’s exciting performances in the Stars and Stripes Spectacular in Portland, Maine, scheduled for July 4th, which will be preceded by our annual march in Boston’s 4th of July parade.
MCV to Perform at 2015 Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo
MCV has accepted an invitation to perform at the 2015 edition of the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This will be MCV’s second appearance at the world’s largest indoor Tattoo. Please visit our RNSIT webpage for further details.
MCV Marches into Spring
MCV began our 2014 season with the Scituate St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 16th. Chilly but sunny day (and no snow!). April featured four performances over two weekends: The Liberty Pole Capping Ceremony in Bedford, MA (Sat. April 12th) followed that afternoon by the Meriam’s Corner Exercise in Concord, MA. Then it was on to two Patriots Day parades in Concord and Lexington, MA on Monday, April 21st. We were fortunate to have sunny weather and large crowds at both parades. A small contingent of MCV performed with the Boston Camerata at their final concert of the season on Friday, April 25th. A review of the concert can be viewed here. Tis The Season to Support MCV
Although MCV is officially on performance break during the month of December, it is a critical fund-raising month for the organization. Our Annual Fund drive will conclude on December 31st. Please consider a tax-deductible donation of any size to MCV before the end of the year.
December is also our busiest sales month for MCV Albums. A reminder that the deadline to order albums for delivery by Christmas is December 19th! We are pleased to report that we now have FOUR popular MCV albums in digital format, so if you were too late to order CDs you may download the albums from our store on Nimbit.

With Labor Day behind us, MCV begins our Fall 2013 performance season. You can see MCV this Fall at the following events in Massachusetts:
- Medway 300th Anniversary Parade: Saturday, September 21st. 1:00 pm step-off
- Sudbury Colonial Faire & Muster: Saturday, September 28th. Muster parade @ 12:00 pm
- Weston 300th Anniversary Parade: Saturday, October 5th. 12:00 pm step-off
- Haverhill VFW Santa Parade: Sunday, November 24th. 1:00 pm step-off
MCV Celebrates Independence Day
MCV appeared in four events around the annual Independence Day holiday. We kicked off the celebration early with the 4th of July Parade in Braintree, MA on Saturday, June 29th. Our next stop were two parades on Thursday, July 4th: Boston, MA and Sudbury, MA under sunny but extremely hot and humid conditions. Finally the ensemble returned to Boston on Friday, July 5th for our annual “Drums in the Night” concert as part of Boston Harborfest. The concert had an excellent turnout and we were well received. Our next events are the 300th Anniversary parade in Oxford, MA (Sunday, July 14th) and the Deep River Ancient Muster in Deep River, CT (Saturday, July 20th). We hope to see many of our friends in the fife and drum community at Deep River!
MCV Returns to Colonial Williamsburg
MCV traveled to Virginia this May to participate in the 10th anniversary of Drummers Call at Colonial Williamsburg. MCV performed on Saturday, May 18th with several other fife & drum corps from throughout the USA. Highlights of Drummers Call included the Grand March and Review and Muster and the Williamsburg Torch-lit Parade in the evening.
MCV was well received as the featured guest artist at the Successful Campaign concert at Kimball Theatre in Colonial Williamsburg on Friday, May 17th. Colonial Williamsburg Fifes & Drums was the host corps. Our good friend and mentor John Moon was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening’s entertainment. MCV wishes to thank all of our friends at Colonial Williamsburg for the warm welcome.
Before departing for Virginia, the ensemble performed at the William Diamond Fife & Drum Muster on Saturday, May 4th. This annual event was held at the Minute Man National Historical Park in Lexington, Massachusetts under mostly sunny but windy conditions. A good turnout by corps as well as attendees made for an excellent start to the fife & drum Muster season.
MCV Begins 2013 Performance Season
MCV’s 2013 performance season kicked off with the sunny but cold St. Patrick’s Day parade in Scituate, Massachusetts on Sunday, March 17th. The ensemble was warmly greeted by Scituate citizens who turned out to celebrate the end of what has been a brutal Winter for the coastal town. MCV next appeared in the Manchester, New Hampshire St. Patrick’s Day parade on Sunday, March 24th. Another sunny but unseasonably cold day greeted us.
April is a traditionally busy month for MCV: we will be performing in four events over two weekends: Bedford Liberty Pole capping and Meriam’s Corner Exercise (both on Saturday, April 6th), the Patriots Day parade in Lexington on Sunday, April 14th and the Patriots Day parade in Concord on Monday, April 15th. We hope to see many of our local fans out at one or more of these free events!
MCV Junior Fife & Drum Workshop
MCV’s annual Junior Fife & Drum Workshop was held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 and was a great success. Stay tuned for photos from the workshop. MCV will soon begin our outdoor performance season: St. Patrick’s Day parades on March 17 (Scituate, MA) and March 24 (Manchester, NH).
