From Thompson's English Dances Volume I, O'Carolan's
compositions and the Caledonian Pocket Companion respectively

Morgan Megan / Fanny Power / Hugh O'Donnel - MP3 (325 KB)
Irish jigs and reels are a mainstay of U.S. fifing & drumming,
so here is our take on three beautiful melodies by harpist
Turlough O'Carolan, with influences from harpist Derek
Bell of The Chieftains and flutist Chris Norman. Dedicated
to our friends in East Belfast and Enniskillen - good
music and late nights! All three tunes are drawn from
The Complete Works of O'Carolan, Ossian Publications
Ltd., 1989.
Fife Arrangement: Sarah MacConduibh
Drum Score: James Martin Clark |
The Sweetness of Mary - MP3 (366 KB)
Discovered over red wine in a book of fiddle tunes from
Prince Edward Island in Canada, this lovely modern composition
by Joan MacDonald Boes has found a place in our program
as a retreat beating. From the Fiddle Music of Prince
Edward Island: Celtic and Acadian Tunes of Living Tradition,
by Ken Perlman, © 1996 by Mel Bay Publications,
Inc., Pacific, MO.
Fife Arrangement: S. MacConduibh & Jane Law
Drum Score: Jim MacConduibh |
March du Regiment Saintonge / La Pousette / Vignobles
a Martin Cotillion - MP3
(396 KB)
'St. Onge' and 'Vignobles' are both traditional
melodies, and 'La Pousette' is from Country
Dances of Colonial America by John Fitzhugh
Millar, original source Trois Rivieres Manuscript
ca 1765, Quebec
Fife Arrangement: S. MacConduibh
Drum Score: James Martin Clark |
La Cythére / Scottish Lente - MP3
(396 KB)
Scottish Lente was learned from a fabulous and exciting
French recording from April '94, 'Les Sous-Fifres de
St. Pierre, Made in Gascougne' - nothing sounds like
this, and we highly recommend it! (Jean-Pierre BERTIN,
France 56 76 88 28). La Cythére was discovered
in Riley's Flute Music by Jane Law.
